There are countless locations to choose from when scheduling a photo session and sometimes it can seem overwhelming. Today I am going to give you some tips on how to choose the perfect location for your photo session and first question I usually ask is, what type of session is it? Is it a family session, engagement, first birthday, or graduation photos? If you have little ones, you may want to stay close to home and avoid locations like Sunset Cliffs that may be dangerous for little ones. If you have a grad session coming up, you may want to take the photos at your school or somewhere meaningful to the graduate. Maybe you have a certain theme or style you're going for. If you're looking for a western style, I may recommend Old Town or Old Poway Park. Here are a couple more things to think about when deciding which location to choose.
Outfits
Do you have an idea of what your outfits will look like? Will you be more dressy or casual? If you are going for dressy, Balboa Park would be nice. If you want more of a casual, no shoes type of session, we could go to the beach or a nearby park.
Somewhere meaningful
There are times when a client already has a location in mind and plans their outfits and style around that. Maybe it's a location that is meaningful or they are on vacation and would love photos in the area. If you know of a beautiful location and alraedy have your mind set to it, let's do it! 😊
Travel
How long are you willing to travel? There are locations that may be your perfect dream location but can be more than an hour away. If you have little ones, it may be more difficult to travel. Keep in mind that there can also be additional fees if traveling more than a certain amount of miles away from photographers hometown.
Aesthetic
What is the aesthetic you are looking for? Do you want green and lush location? Are you into the dry, open space with sunset look? If you have some photo inspiration, feel free to send it to me! I can recommend a location that will match the look that you are going for.
